Corporate Volunteers Go To School
Houston-Based NextiraOne Renews Commitment to Local Junior Achievement Program
HOUSTON - Sept. 12, 2003 - NextiraOne, LLC and Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas announced the Houston-based company's support of the Junior Achievement program for a third year.
NextiraOne has once again agreed to participate in a "whole school program," in which a business agrees to provide a corporate contribution and an adequate number of volunteers to lead the JA program for an entire school. The company will continue its involvement with Gordon Elementary School in Bellaire, Texas.
The program calls for employee volunteers to teach in each classroom once a week for six weeks, with some volunteers teaching more than one class. NextiraOne affords employees the opportunity to participate in approved volunteer programs.
"Our involvement in Junior Achievement is an excellent example of our employees' commitment to the communities in which we do business," said Michael Ruley, president and CEO of NextiraOne. "Their desire to inspire and motivate young people by sharing their own experiences and expertise in the business world has had an enormous impact on students and volunteers alike. We are delighted to once again take part in this outstanding program."
NextiraOne employee volunteer Yen Leong agreed, "My goal as a Junior Achievement volunteer is to be able to contribute in a small way to our future. There is nothing more rewarding than to be able to nurture students' dreams and help link them to current realities."
According to local Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas president Jerry Mutchler, local businesses have been supporting JA since 1945. "This year we have a goal of teaching over 172,000 students about the value of free enterprise and how to understand business and economics in order to improve the quality of their lives," said Mutchler.
