NextiraOne to Provide Management Services
for Miami-Dade Aviation Department
HOUSTON - April 26, 2004 - NextiraOne announced today that it has been awarded a management services contract by the Miami-Dade County Commission to provide a wide range of telecommunications, data network and shared airport tenant services to the Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD) at Miami International Airport (MIA) -- the 18th busiest airport in the world. The five-year management agreement is valued at more than $35 million and provides the option to MDAD to exercise two one-year extensions.
Under the management services agreement, NextiraOne will provide an onsite staff of 50 positions including voice engineers and technicians, data engineers and technicians, cabling management personnel, sales/marketing staff for airport tenants, Tier 1 Help Desk (TSRs), Project Coordinators, and a fully staffed onsite 24X7 Network Operations Center.
NextiraOne will support more than 8,000 phone lines, more than 2,000 data ports, and hundreds of security cameras. The equipment will process nearly two million calls per month and more than 60 billion data packets daily. The backbone of the infrastructure is a state-of-the-art fiber-based network, consisting of more than eight million feet of fiber-optic cable, to serve MDAD facilities - including more than 80 tenants within the airport, employees, and the three surrounding airports - Opa Locka, Homestead, and Tamiami.
"While NextiraOne has provided telecommunications support for the Miami International Airport and Miami-Dade Aviation Department for more than 20 years, the Aviation Department has asked the NextiraOne team, led by Operations Manager Pedro de Camillo and Strategic Account Manager Bill McGlashan, to assume a much more significant role at the airport, greatly expanding our services and support of the airport's infrastructure," said Chuck Daniels, executive vice president, chief technology officer and chief marketing officer for NextiraOne. "With a $4.8 billion airport expansion project underway - as the airport continues to grow - NextiraOne continues to enhance its support for the airport's mission-critical communications functions. Our team of highly skilled, customer-focused, on-site employees is committed to providing mandatory 24-hour-a-day uptime services that will further boost MDAD efficiencies."
